DTB’s commissions in the Health Care and Aged Health Care related sectors have regularly involved strategic analysis, feasibility studies & recommendations into existing facilities with a view to determine a new or expanded strategic direction. These commissions often require DTB to act as an independent, third party to a Consultant Team, acting as the Client’s representative to write Performance and Design Briefs and act as Peer Review in the Design and Documentation phases.
Helga ten Brummelaar’s expertise also includes her ability to identify and clarify operational flows and interrelationships. This has led to numerous commissions to analyse and provide feasibility analysis for a range of project types and sizes from consideration of an awning to provide shelter for a loading dock to a hospital extension to double the number of operating theatres and increase bed capacity by 250 beds. Repeat Clients understand that they can rely on DTB to give impartial advice even if it means that a potential architectural commission may not eventuate.
DTB have recently completed the purpose designed Chaplains’ facilities at the Adventist Hospital Wahroonga. Currently DTB are finalising Concept design for a specialist fit-out within a new hospital based consulting suite and considering upgrade of a Central Sterilising Facility and Endoscopy Unit.
San Clinic Parkway – Specialist Suite
DTB has been commissioned to design & document the fit-out for a specialist consulting suite within this new facility. The Parkway Suites are part of Adventist Healthcare’s commitment to one of the largest developments in the history of the private hospital.
Sydney Adventist Hospital – Chaplains Facilities
The Chaplains’ suite accommodating Spiritual Care Services and Mission Integration had occupied an existing office space in a building now undergoing renovation. A purpose designed facility was required to be located in the main Tulloch Building close to the chapel. Relocation was required within a tight time frame and budget. Budget constraints meant that utilisation of the Hospitals’ new standards for FF& E was required which also assisted the time constraints in minimising the selection process for finishes & colours and long lead time ordering. Time was spent maximising light availability within the space between the various functions.
Dalcross Adventist Hospital – Expansion Feasibility
DTB Architects were employed as Project Manager to manage the design team, comprising Arborist, Architect, PCA, Civil & Stormwater, Electrical, Heritage, Hydraulic & Fire, Landscape, Mechanical, Planner, Quantity Surveyor, Services, Structural, Surveyor & Traffic consultants. The team were commissioned after extensive separate tenders to carry out Feasibility & Concept Design analysis of the potential for expansion of the Hospital onto adjoining properties owned by Adventist Health Care to create a new and independent Theatre complex to supplement the existing and upgraded facility. Particular care and note had to be paid to the surrounding, existing environment and historic homes.

Dalcross Adventist Hospital – Day Surgery FacilityThe relocation of several functions from the hospital at Killara to Wahroonga allowed the space to introduce a Day Procedures Clinic that could be separated from the Rehabilitation Facility.
The Clinic required that the new entry lobby, reception, waiting, discharge and Stages 2 & 3 holding all in the new style that the hospital was creating for their masterplanning of the site. Clean, modern and reassuring were the key experiences that were to be conveyed.
Dalcross Adventist Hospital – Rehabilitation Upgrade. Relocation of facilities from Killara to Wahroonga also provided the opportunity to separate and expand the Rehabilitation facilities.
Expanded Physiotherapy, gymnasium, gait training and ADL Kitchen & Dining were added in a stage development, in addition to increasing the number of Rehabilitation bedrooms.
